5 ways to refine your iterations

If you’ve ever felt stuck trying to get the perfect image in MidJourney, you’re not alone. First, there are a couple of things you should be aware of and fortunately, there are several simple tweaks you can make to refine your results and save time while achieving the outputs you’d like. Below are four actionable tips and one concept about Midjourney’s default to help you steer your AI-generated visuals more effectively.

1. Midjourney’s Default Settings Generate a New Variation Every Time

The first thing to be aware of is that even if you use the exact same prompt repeatedly, Midjourney’s default randomness will lead to new variations. This means it’s great for brainstorming new ideations, but it’s difficult to steer a certain result.

2. Increase the Chaos Value for More Variations

Want a broader range of ideas? Add the --chaos command followed by a number from 0 to 100 to your prompt (or use the “Variation” slider in the web  version). A higher chaos value introduces more randomness to the composition, giving you widened experimental variations to work with.

3. Tweak Your Text Prompt

Small changes can lead to significant differences. Try adding or replacing parts of your description. For example, adjust material colors, change the shape, or refine the style to better guide the AI toward your desired outcome.

4. Use an Image as Reference

To align the results with a specific style or scene, use a reference image. Uploading an image and combining it with a text prompt helps Midjourney interpret your request more precisely, making the final result much closer to your vision.

5. Click on “Vary” – Strong or Subtle

Once you generate an image you’re happy with, the “Vary” button allows you to refine it further. Choosing “Subtle” makes minor changes, while “Strong” creates more distinct variations. This is perfect for staying close to an idea you like without losing creative control.
